4th N Goal – ‘Turn on the Light’

By Tamsyn Wilce

What’s more pop-punk than a band from the birthplace of pizza? 4th ’N Goal are the six piece easy core pop-punk band from Italy that are ready to place their feet firmly in the sand and stand their ground against the hoards of bands doing the same and prove their worth with their new EP ‘Turn On The Light’. This, unfortunately, is a genre that is so crowded right now and it’s really hard to throw anything interesting into an already brimming sea full of double time and gang vocals. That said, 4th ’N Goal are doing everything right and every song on this six track EP shows that they’re very familiar with the formula of the genre.

Despite this being consistently strong release of songs, there doesn’t seem to be anything that really stands out as much as it should. Every track verges on the edge of being that singalong you’d have stuck in your head for days but it feels like there’s something missing, which unfortunately leaves you unable to remember the previous track as soon as it fades into the next one. Regardless, ‘Turn On The Light’ IS a very good record and despite the fact that you may find it taking a while to settle in, fans of the genre will definitely have a place for it in their collection. There’s even a guest appearance from Matty Arsenault (A Loss For Words) and a very well executed cover of Bring Me The Horizon’s ‘Drown’, with a rather comical parody video of it available on YouTube.
