ACODA – ‘Truth Seeker’

By Jess Tagliani

ACODA’s latest album has been hailed as their new beginning – a fresh start, if you will. That’s not to say that the last few years have seen them fail; in fact, it’s been quite the opposite. They’ve toured with Hawthorne Heights, shared stages alongside Funeral For a Friend, Marmozets, and Devil Sold His Soul, and graced Download, Sonisphere, T In the Park, and Hevy with their huge presence. That’s a lot to be able to shout about after 7 years as a band.

The latest that ACODA can boast about is their newest album, ‘Truth Seeker’. With the drive and energy of past bands, such as Hildamay and Fei Comodo, a fresh line-up, along with their DIY mentality (which saw them record and produce this album themselves, with help from Russ Russell of both Parlour Studios and Red Shed), this four-piece are yelling their re-emergence loud and proud.

Tracks such as ‘Whispers Like Roars’ and ‘Face Everything’ are huge, packed with massive hooks and bold, vibrant choruses. Their riffs completely floor you, whilst their big melodies are a punch in the face, as demonstrated during ‘Make It Up As You Go’. The energy that burns through ‘Just Another Day’ is astounding and blistering – it only serves as a reminder that ACODA are ruthless and powerful, and they constantly demonstrate that throughout this release.

‘Hymnyin’ and ‘Talk It Out’ see frontman Damon Tang display his full ability as a vocalist – the vocals are robust and raw, strong and visceral. Which is what makes these tracks so epic and powerful. And then there are their brutally honest lyrics, which will completely resonate with fans. ‘Won’t Go Running’ is one such example, with “I’ll scratch your back/you stab mine.” Their lyrics are ones that people will be able to connect with on a deeper level. This track is also a nice breather in the midst of such an energetic and adrenaline-fuelled album – it shows off the band’s natural talent with such ease and finesse.

‘Truth Seeker’ truly is the album that will see ACODA grab 2015 by its balls. Punchy, powerful, and packed with anthems, this album is definitely a major boost that this year has been waiting for. It’s going to be the one to push the band to even greater heights in the coming years.
