Alpha Male Tea Party – ‘Health’

By Emma Greveson

If you’ve never heard Alpha Male Tea Party before then you’re in for a surprise when you hear their incredibly loud, hard rock instrumentals. They are purely exhilarating to listen to: forget the lyrics that dominate the music industry and just have fun interpreting the songs by their use of melody, rhythm and rock.

Their new album ‘Health’ starts off with ‘Have You Ever Seen Milk?’ which eases us in using a pleasant guitar riff to start with, developing into a rhythmic, progressive section and introducing more guitars and sound effects. All of a sudden you are thrown into a metaphorical pit, as more guitars and drums blow you away. The interesting thing about this track is the sudden changes in guitar rhythm and time signatures, refreshing in their creativity and something you might not spot if you aren’t a musician yourself.

‘I Still Live At Home’ holds a steady, strong beat from the beginning, leading us into a powerful mid-section with cymbals smashing and the guitars creating twists and turns by adding in alternating riffs. Again, the variation in speed between sections creates a track that you can’t help but keep up with.

Alpha Male Tea Party are an extremely interesting band to listen to and it is refreshing to hear true musicianship being used. ‘Health’ is perfect for moments when you just want to mosh mindlessly and there’s no chance of thinking about much else when listening to AMTP. They really do know what they’re doing and use their skills to their fullest capacity to produce something, quite frankly, exceptional.
