Asking Alexandria – From Death To Destiny

By Lais

‘From Death To Destiny’ is Asking Alexandria’s third album, and let’s get one thing straight: it’s an absolute blinder. Chances are you have some preconceptions about this band, but you need to ditch them. Seriously. Because regardless of anything else, this is a truly excellent album.

While still classed as metalcore, there’s no doubt that Asking Alexandria are evolving with every album they release. On their debut ‘Stand Up And Scream’, they were straight up shouty metal, and it wasn’t great. On second album ‘Reckless & Relentless’, they’d vastly improved and the songs were a lot more accessible. And now we come to third album, ‘From Death To Destiny’, and it’s quite simply glorious.

From intro ‘Don’t Pray For Me’ up until closer ‘Until The End’, there are absolutely no low points on this album. Frontman Danny Worsnop’s voice sounds better than it ever has, and the combination of screams and melodic vocals is a winning one. Teamed with wildly catchy choruses and chugging riffs, it’s an unbelievable formula. It’s one of those albums you hear once, and you feel as if you know all the lyrics already. Incredibly good.

The album’s highlight is undoubtedly ‘Moving On’, a power ballad so good it could be mistaken for Bon Jovi. If you don’t find yourself singing along with this one, there’s something deeply wrong with you. And if you don’t enjoy the epic key change towards the end of the track, you’re pretty much dead inside. Just saying.

But seriously, regardless of what you think of Asking Alexandria or their genre, give them a chance with this one. This album is ridiculously great, and they deserve some acknowledgment for that. And whether you appreciate them or not, they’re still a British band who have managed to overtake Jay Z in the American charts. And that’s not something many bands can say. We should be proud.
