Having two releases within a year of each other can be a difficult achievement. Having two good releases within a year of each other is almost unheard of sometimes. However, Croydon trio Bad Sign have managed the latter with finesse. Headline tours and support slots with acts such as Devil Sold His Soul and Arcane Roots have pushed these guys a bit more into the limelight, which is where they deserve to be if their new EP is anything to go by.
Their latest EP ‘Destroy’, is five tracks packed with raw and gritty power that simply roars to life. An onslaught of abrasive and coarse riffs set up the explosive ‘Confession’, twisting together with the thunderous drum work that sets up the foundation of this killer track. ‘The Recidivist’ is rough-hewn, with a big and energetic chorus that hooks listeners and reels them in, while ‘Father’ is an emotional track, which sees vocalist and bassist Joe Appleford lends his striking vocals, creating this deep and dynamic song. Appleford himself explains that, “Even though I might not say it, I value all that you haven’t done. Be proud that you’re not a father; be proud that I’m not your son” is what the song is about.
Vigorous and tenacious riffs combined with Appleford’s mighty vocals create ‘Faith’, while title track ‘Destroy’ is a dominant and compelling force; it’s a fitting end to this EP.
‘Destroy’ is an intimate and honest release; its emotive tracks will set Bad Sign aside from others. Their tracks are potent and impressive, full to the brim with monster riffs that will have venues up and down the country sweating in no time whatsoever.
