Captain Everything – Bomb Song

By bushy

Captain Everything really are one of those bands that can be considered stalwarts of the UK punk scene. I would imagine that there a very few people reading this review who are yet to hear them or see them play live. The band are preceding their forthcoming album with their very first vinyl release through the ever reliable Household Name Records. ‘Bomb Song’ comes on pink vinyl and features three tracks, two of which are brand new.

The A side of this 7” release is the aforementioned ‘Bomb Song’, a track that first appeared on the band’s myspace site. ‘Bomb Song’ is a very typical Captain Everything song, and one that showcases their uniquely British pop punk sound. The production here is very, very meaty and the result is a bouncy, hook-filled song that sounds fantastic. The B side features two tracks, one new and one old. First up is ‘He am Spartacus’, a track that is faster than ‘Bomb Song’ and almost as good. The trio of songs is rounded off with a re-recorded version of ‘Diary of a spengler’. It turns out to be another treat for fans.

Captain Everything‘s first vinyl release proves to be a total success. Three great tracks and some nice packaging add up to a little treat that no fan of the band should be without. Seek it out before they’re all gone…
