Centrifuge – Carnival/Carnivore 7″

By bushy

Stoke-on-Trent based Centrifuge have already had some positive comments on this site with the release of their ‘Lizards in the Wire’ EP. The latest effort from the band is a two track 7 inch single, released through Workhorse Records. Does it warrant more positive reactions?

Well, the answer, quite simply, is yes. The two tracks on offer here draw on what the band have produced before with an added air of musical maturity. ‘Carnival/Carnivore’ shows this off very effectively. Starting with brooding, intricate verses; the song effortlessly slides into a memorable driving chorus. Centrifuge draw on a host of musical influences, but their blend of post punk and indie is very distinctive. ‘Shotgun Funeral’ is a more melodic affair; combining knowing lyrics and strong song writing.

I’d love to see Centrifuge produce an album with ten tracks of this quality. I’ve a feeling it could be something quite special. As it is, this two track 7 inch single is a great little release and is well worth checking out.
