Claypigeon – Demo

By bushy

Another day, another demo here at punktastic towers. This time it’s the turn of East London four-piece Claypigeon to try and impress. This particular CD contains three tracks taken from the bands longer demo entitled ‘Smoking Thrills‘. Clocking in at just under ten minutes, it’s not the weightiest demo I’ve ever reviewed, but it is long enough to give some initial impressions on the band.

Now with any demo, you know you aren’t going to get the best production in the world. Normally it’s not that much of a problem. However, the three tracks here aren’t that great, and the poor production detracts from them further. It’s not the musicianship of the band that is in question – they are all competent with their instruments and the vocals are decent. The band play very simple punk rock with a hint of ska, but there’s a lot lacking from their sound. The big problem here is that the song writing is poor. ‘Love And Trust’ is decent enough but both ‘Nice One Jon’ and ‘Cheer Up Goth’ are mediocre to say the least.

Claypigeon aren’t the worst band in the world by any means, but they really need to sharpen up their song writing to make any impact in a very crowded scene.
