Danny Worsnop – ‘The Long Road Home’

By Christopher Lee

Recently returned lead singer of Asking Alexandria Danny Worsnop makes a drastic change of direction with his first solo album. Country albums are normally filled with tales of bars, whiskey and girls and, as you’d expect, Worsnop has more than a few of those.

The album itself gets of to a somber start with ‘Prozac’ but it doesn’t take long to pick itself up and get you stamping your feet like any good country album should. Worsnop doesn’t limit himself to just one genre of country music and there’s a number of almost bluesy ballads like ‘Anyone But Me’ and ‘High’ which do manage to capture you with their raw emotion.

The polar opposite to this is the couple of bluegrass tracks thrown in for good measure: ‘Don’t Overdrink It’ and ‘The Man’ don’t fail in getting you moving. The standout track from the album comes in the form of ‘I Got Bones’ which blends the two and throws in a wailing guitar solo for good measure.

All in all it’s good insight into Worsnop’s life which has been well documented, has gained and possibly lost him fans in equal measure, but provided the emotional material for his first solo album. In his own words, “the solo work is my number one, always. I’m already thinking about the second one,” so it will be interesting to see how this plays out alongside his work with Asking Alexandria.
