Eva Plays Dead – ‘Sounds Of the Written Word’

By Jess Tagliani

Eva Plays Dead may be considered an antidote that is needed within this over-saturated industry, full of bands that don’t do much to really stick out. But this Midlands-based quartet are more than proud to stand apart from their counterparts, boasting a medley of punk-tinged rock music, complete with powerful riffs and mighty vocals.

Having supported bands such as the late LostAlone and Canterbury, as well as Max Raptor, Eva Plays Dead have come back with a new EP, ‘Sounds Of the Written Word’, and are ready to show off their talent once again.

‘Live Again’ kicks the EP off with a rush of burning energy, setting up this release nicely. Then there’s ‘Bad Girl’, a sexy, voluptuous track that’s filled out with crooning vocals and straight-up rock n’ roll riffs that demand attention. ‘Wonderland’ is huge, packed with dark and venomous riffs. Frontwoman Tiggy Dockerty displays her swaggering vocals, laced with plenty of confidence and gusto, both of which make this track a standout single.

Tracks such as ‘We Ain’t a Family’ and ‘1950’s Woman’ really showcase Tiggy’s towering vocals once again – they’re reminiscent of Joan Jett’s and of the punk era, when musicians really didn’t give a fuck. The riffs are huge, with plenty of melodic hooks and adrenaline.

‘Sounds Of the Written Word’ is a straight-up, no nonsense rock EP. If you’re looking for a band that comes complete with sultry undertones, smoky and dark vocals, and vibrant riffs, then look no further. Eva Plays Dead meet these needs and more.
