Fizzy Blood – ‘Summer of Luv’

By Emma Greveson

Leeds based Fizzy Blood’s new EP ‘Summer of Luv’ delivers a strong array of grunge rock. ‘Pawn’ is hard and dynamic throughout. Introduced by a hi-fi distorted guitar, the track kicks off into full blown monstrosity with chanting and pure acceleration from the drums, and it almost feels as though the guitars are fleeting away they’re creating so much motion. With a slow, heavy and headbanging exit there is no room for disappointment in this short but snappy track.

‘Haunted’ starts off eerie and atmospheric with a repetitive guitar riff and reverb heavy vocals. Once the introduction is over the track gains much more movement and the chorus is passionate, guitar heavy and is the kind of climatic chorus you expect after a lengthy build up. The final lyric line of “don’t let my mind wander off…” leads us into a spiralling grunge meltdown and is the ultimate end to this maniacal track.

‘Summer of Luv’ instantly grabs your attention with its catchy, extremely characteristic, fully synthesised introduction. A small transition using a cowbell portrays Fizzy Blood’s sense of humour and fun. The band explode onto the scene with their weighty guitar riffs, and Greenway’s charismatic drumming which is filled with embellishments. This track holds a huge amount of character and attitude, not failing to excite the listener with its varied rhythms, melodies and bursts of passion.

Fizzy Blood have delivered a fresh and exciting EP which is sure to attract new fans and satisfy existing. A busy and motivated band, Fizzy Blood clearly have a passion for what they do and know how to grab the attention of their listeners.
