Get Set Radio – Paper Champion

By Andy

With their newest release ‘Paper Champion‘, GET SET RADIO are back in the game after a long absence. There is no doubt that the Fall Out Boy comparisons can be made aplenty – vocalist Will Clements has incredible range and great depth in the same vein as Patrick Stump, while other similarities lie in their catchy pop-rock sound and vitriolic lyrics.

The first track on the EP, ‘An Itch And A Stitch’, begins with low infectious vocals and thumping drums developing into strong group chants towards the end. ‘Bad Cop, Worse Cop’ is another hit, a track to be heard live with singalong lyrics and great guitars. Clements’ soulful vocals are best showcased on final song ‘Through The Eye Of A Needle’ which brings the EP to a swinging close. The comparisons to FOB circa 2005 still hold and if you never liked it then, you’re not going to like Get Set Radio now. However, for those who are gasping for their next fix of deliciously self-indulgent pop rock, Get Set Radio are the group to go for and certainly one of the best of the recent bunch.
