Library of June – 53 Weeks

By Andy

Following a recent name change from Dials, this is the first release from LIBRARY OF JUNE who are looking to build on some positive press with this six track EP ’53 Weeks’.

Things start off well with the catchy ‘Even The Trees Grow Dust’, which will do well to act as the focal point for the entire record, as it succeeds in creating a positive first impression. The only issue beyond this is the variety in song structures among the five tracks that follow. They’re all very similar. The guitar dominates throughout, with the odd solo accompanying the vocals well, both demanding the attention of the listener. Unfortunately, on too many occasions the bass and drums act merely as background noise, not really adding anything to the songs. This approach creates some powerful and memorable moments but the danger is that with time it becomes too repetitive. This aside, there are some good foundations to be built upon. ’53 Weeks’ is arguably two songs too many, but acts as good evidence as to why there’s an increasing buzz currently surrounding these guys.
