Lost? – Pics, Or It Didn’t Happen

By paul

You can tell Blink 182 have reformed as PT’s review basket is rapidly filling with bands sending us their best impressions. Norwich’s Lost? are the latest to do their best Mark, Tom and Travis impression, although this band tend to side more with the ‘Self Titled’ record than the ‘Dude Ranch’-era stuff we mostly get bombarded with. The main vocalist sounds a lot like Mark Hoppus and the track ‘Playboy’ trades vocals just like Mark and Tom do. It’s all a bit uncanny.

To be fair to the band they’re half-decent at what they do and they try and write catchy choruses and big songs throughout. It doesn’t always work brilliantly – ‘Damn baby!’ has a decent chorus but the verses, interspersed with samples and electronics, just sound cumbersome and generic. Still, credit to the band for at least trying to have hooks and big singalong moments. Most bands just write three-chord riffs and fail miserably. The five tracks are over within 15 minutes and it’s only the closing ‘Heartfelt’ which outstays its welcome at five minutes of turgid piano plodding pop that’s neither heartfelt or, come to think of it, any good. Stick to the pop punk boys.
