Two things immediately hit me when I first received this to review. 1) The band couldn’t be bothered to label the MP3s correctly, so the band name wasn’t attached when it loaded in iTunes. Lazy, lazy, lazy. 2) There’s really no need at all for a 6 (yes, SIX) page biography. All I need to know is where you’re from, your influences and a website link to get further information. Anything else isn’t needed and unless you’re a million selling artist, including quotes written in the third person just makes you sound like a cock.
Anyway, I don’t really know how I would describe Cheshire’s Lost Response – they’re not pop enough to be a pop band, certainly not ‘punk’ at all, so I guess they’re kind of a melodic rock band. It’s all OK if you like that kind of thing, but it’s just not catchy or memorable enough for the genre I think it’s trying to be. ‘Alone In the Crowd’ has a lot going on, for instance, but the hook isn’t big enough to reel me in. The guitars are well produced but could do with being a bit meaty, while I think the vocals are a bit…well, meh. They’re not bad, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t stand out enough. Competent, sure, but bland. And no-one likes bland.
Lost Response are not a bad band by any stretch, I just don’t really know where they fit in and who would seek them out to listen to them. I guess it sounds a bit dated. I dunno. It’s OK, just not really for me.
