Make This Relate – One More Second Chance

By paul

My first thought whilst listening to this four tracker – these guys are from Scotland. No faux American accents here, it’s the most broad Glaswegian accent you’ve ever heard front a band. If you thought Biffy Clyro gave a nod to their heritage, wait until you hear Kevin Walls. MTR borrow heavily from Biffy throughout. They’re a decent band – actually the worst song, in my opinion, is the first track with the last the best – so if ever there was an EP to show you need to stick with a band and give them a proper listen, this is the one. ‘This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice’ is probably the song the band sound most comfortable. All too often it just sounds a little plodding and like they’re trying to impersonate other bands. They do a good job, as I say, this is a decent effort. But I like bands to sound like they know what they want to do and the last track is the only one I think I would take away and listen to again, for pleasure. The guitars build, the vocals soar and the drums hit hard. It’s a good mix and shows the band clearly have the talent to write great songs. They just need the consistency to do it more often.
