Never Hill – ‘Epilogue’

By Jess Tagliani

It’s rare to know that you’re onto a winning band when you hear the opening chords of their EP. But Coventry’s Never Hill have managed to do just that; their release ‘Epilogue’ reels listeners in from the opening chords to the last strains. They’ve created mesmerising and melodic songs throughout this EP, tracks that have seen them being likened to Deaf Havana, You Me At Six and The 1975.

‘Forgive Me’ and ‘Fire’ explode with a shining energy; anthemic choruses and sweet melodies make these tracks standout on what is a strong release. ‘Afraid Of the Dark’, featuring guest vocalist Jack Voss, definitely has the potential to be their next single; it’s radio-friendly, with its delicious riffs and saucy guitar licks.

The piano-led ‘Colours’ is poignant and emotional, and is a song that listeners can relate to. It also displays Adam Ross’ huge and dynamic vocal range; to go from elephantine and loud vocals in their more energetic tracks, to reining it in for something that’s slower is awe-inspiring. ‘Starting Line’ sees Never Hill employ frenetic riffs and pulsating drum work to create a solid anthem, along with guest vocals from Eleni Drake – the contrast between her strong vocals and Adam’s raging vocals is astounding.

Never Hill have created a brooding and dark EP, but it’s one that will resonate with listeners and will hopefully make them a huge name within the alternative rock scene. With a release this solid and stunning, it would be a huge shame if they were to disappear from the scene.
