Resolution 242 – Resurgence EP

By Andy

Ska/reggae/dub trio RESOLUTION 242 have been touring for a while, utterly off their own backs and this is their new three-track EP. There’s not always a great deal to go on review-wise when you’re given so few tracks, but this EP does give you a fair idea about what this band is about. It’s protest politics and heavy use of reverb on the snare drum.

It’s fair to say that there are a few bands about right now doing a similar thing and it’s hard not to be led towards thinking that a lot of the time these bands are heavily influenced by the King Blues or The Skints. Saying that, Resolution 242 are more reminiscent of Authority Zero‘s dub-infused three-chord punk at times. It doesn’t win points for originality, but all three tracks have the kind of chorus that will stick in your head pretty quick.

The standout track is ‘Speak Of The Devil’, which is hugely reminiscent of King Prawn‘s ‘Dominant View’. That probably tells you what you need to know more than a lengthy, pompous review. If that floats your boat, this lot certainly will.
