Resolutions – ‘Demo’

By James Brown

If Hanover’s Resolutions are anything to go by, then we should all be paying far more attention to the German punk-rock scene.

This five track demo is straight up gruff-punk-rock, blending everything we love about the genre. It’s raw, catchy and honest, and it really wouldn’t be out of place at Fest 12 in Florida this October.

‘New Ways, New Ideas’ is a great opening example of what Resolutions are all about. The quick pace and the understated melody in the vocals, combining nicely with simple yet effective guitar riffs.

They aren’t looking to break the mould here and tracks such as ‘Pictures On The Wall’ and ‘Rising Water And Circling Vultures’ back that up. Naturally you’ll hear comparisons to the likes of Hot Water Music, Small Arms Dealer and Latterman and that’s exactly their target audience.

I’m happy to excuse the lack of originality as all five songs still feel fresh and exciting, and this is a great start for Resolutions. It’s good fun and well worth fifteen minutes of your time.
