Appearances can be deceiving and that is no exception for Saint[THE]Sinner. From their press shots they look like such nice quiet boys fit for a folk band but the cold hard reality is that they are very noisy with big riffs and lots of shouting.
Relatively new to the scene but having toured with Glamour Of The Kill and Burn The Fleet, the band is now releasing their new mini album “The Curious Tale Of Mistress Murder”. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out their influences but if you need a hand it is my belief that SAINT[THE]SINNER spent a lot of time with Panic! At The Disco’s “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out”. Now there was a banger.
It’s a heady mix of fast paced metal and dance music and the tempo is quite infectious while the production is high quality enough to forgive for the West End theatrics. Something so easy to fuck up but no one is here for Hairspray, which Saint[The]Sinner have kept at the forefront.
On first listen, I did not like this album but two things eventually won me over. Firstly, the Brendon Urie vocals and general 2005 P!ATD vibes are so spot on it was difficult to not allow nostalgia from bygone days of yesteryear to take over. And secondly, the line from ‘Greyfields’: “Go fucking blog about this, bitch” is the highlight of the entire album. It’s honest and raw and is actually just brilliantly funny.
For an album so heavily focused on failed romances and relationships, SAINT[THE]SINNER have done well to not get too soppy but instead letting bitterness prevail for once gave birth to something pretty decent. ‘The Curious Tale Of Mistress Murder’ is worth a second listen.
