Set Aside – ‘Chivalry Never Dies’

By Chris Marshman

South Wales pop punk. It’s a common term and with the likes of Save Your Breath and Hot Damn leading the way in the department, up and comers Set Aside are set to put their name into the mix with their five track EP ‘Chivalry Never Dies’

Considering we’re now diving head first into a pretty brisk Winter, ‘Chivalry Never Dies’ is a nice reminder of warmer times, from the get go you’re hit with massive Summer vibes. You know that feeling every time Slam Dunk rolls around? Take that, mix it with some super huge hooks and some snapbacks and you’re there.

There are plenty of influences on show here too, old school Four Year Strong but with a bigger emphasis on the melody being the most obvious on show, but the whole vibe is that of early 2000’s pop punk and it’s a fucking fantastic thing.

From the attention grabbing opening of ‘Friend of Eve’ to the franetic ‘Not Acceptable in Suburbia’ all the way round to poppunkrifftastic ending of ‘BIG’ all the ingredients are here to show that Set Aside could have an incredibly exciting future.
