The CD single is dead. Sales have been plummeting over the last couple of years and it can only be a matter of time before the format vanishes from music stores for good. If the latest boy band struggles to sell then what chance do the UK’s rock acts have? Gut Records have come up with a decent solution to this problem – the downloadable single. Having recently employed this tactic with Jarcrew, the label has decided to release the latest SikTh single, ‘Peep Show’ as an affordable download, complete with artwork.
SikTh have been getting a lot of good press since the release of ‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out, Wait For Something Wild’. Described as a mix of Faith No More, Finch and the Lostprophets, the UK sextet have both delighted and confounded with their melding of musical genres. ‘Peep Show’ has proven itself to be a live favourite with fans and due to its melodic nature is a natural choice for a single. It’s an infectious song that both builds and climaxes in equal amounts. If you’ve yet to hear the band, this release, one of their most accessible, is a good starting point.
‘Peep Show’ is available to download from the band’s website from 29th March, for a two week period….
