There is a good chance that, unless you frequent Cambridge underground shows, you are unfamiliar with the TAGNUTS. They’ve been around for a fair while, pedaling their brand of chirpy ska-infused punk rock. MC Ipod‘s Aaaah! Real Records have picked them up and put this 4-track EP out.
There is not a lot of flesh on the bones of this 10 minute effort, but you definitely get the idea. Opener ‘Chip Off The Old Shit Block’ is a nice piece of social commentary, played Suicide Machines style. The rest of the EP is a little more frenetic and sloppy, but the Tagnuts have something quite appealing about them. It reminds a bit of the Antimaniax, if anyone is old enough to remember the zenith of Household Name Records.
They don’t make ’em much like this anymore. At least not for the other 361 days of the year that aren’t Rebellion Festival. Have a listen to this – you can get a downloadable version for donation from the label website. It’s not going to change your life, but it will remind you that punk rock can be both intense and not very serious.
