Teen heart-throb Danny Meeks – ‘The Dopest Thing In The History of Freshness’

By Chris Marshman

This week saw the debut release from Teen Heart Throb Danny Meeks, an EP brimming with confidence, which is all the more impressive when you consider that that band only formed and played their first gig in 2013.

Opening up with ‘If Humanity Was A Horse It Would Be Taken Around The Back of the Stables and Shot’, you’re met with a strong statement from the word go, and the vocals’ almost rant like vibe is scrappy as it is fun. Next up, ‘A Poncho is just a Cape That Goes All The Way Round’ arrives with excellent bass work, raw vocals and a double time drum pattern that harks back to undeniably punk roots. The further into the EP you get, the better things get, finishing up on the brilliant ‘Fools Are Meant For Breaking.’

The band describe themselves as ‘Sloppy but enjoyable’ but despite this, it’s clear that a big amount of care has gone into making the final product an enjoyable one. The execution is outstanding, with intricate vocal mixes and great drum work. It’s a real head nodder of an EP, and one well worth checking out.

Although this band are very much still in their infancy, ‘The Dopest Thing in the History of Freshness’ is an EP with a very clear sign that they mean business, and Teen Heart-Throb Danny Meeks are a band we’re hoping to see a lot more of in the future.
