It can take something very simple to get a band noticed. Quite often a poor choice in name can see you discarded without someone even hearing a sample of your music. The Alpacinos, however, defiantly fall into the category where a name makes you sit up and take notice. ‘Aw That Kill Yer Granny Music!’ is the title of the bands latest EP, and it will be interesting to see if the music lives up to the star billing implied in the name.
The Alpacinos have been plying their trade around Scotland and beyond for the last four years and have built themselves a loyal fan base. It’s easy to see why from this EP. The band possess a passionate and infectious quality that comes across well in this recording. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t music that will change the world – but it is a solid and enjoyable 15 minutes of punk rock.
‘Toni Montana’ kicks off things well. It is a fast paced and melodic track, that draws you in with some well used gang vocals. ‘The Ballad of Grunter McFunter’ proves to be more of the same, and is just as enjoyable. ‘BMX’ dips in quality on the verses, but is still strong in the chorus department. Final track ‘7 Deadly Cynicisms’ also proves to be another solid slab of punk rock.
So then The Alpacinos have a great name, and have proven with ‘Aw That Kill Yer Granny Music!’ that they know how to write a decent song as well. This is a strong little EP and is well worth checking out.
