The Blow Ups – Don’t Play Dead

By bushy

The Blow Ups are a female fronted four piece band who hail from South West London. It is quite difficult to brand them as exponents of any particular genre as they throw a lot of ingredients into their sound. The ‘Don’t Play Dead’ EP sees them using elements of pop, rock and punk. Opening track ‘Planet of Your Own’ is a good indication of what this band are all about. Lead singer Kelly’s vocals fit comfortably with the buzzing guitars and the song has a solid pop chorus; a trait that is apparent throughout this EP. All four tracks on offer here are of a decent, if unspectacular, quality. The standout is probably ‘Do I Offend You?’ a song that shows glimpses of the potential this band have. The Blow Ups undoubtedly sound better when really going hell for leather. As it is ‘Don’t Play Dead’ is a solid little four track EP that is well worth a listen.
