The Decoy – ‘Parasites’

By Jess Tagliani

Welsh alternative trio The Decoy have honed their catchy blend of melodic tech rock over the last six years, and are ready to unleash their madness unto the masses in the form of their EP, ‘Parasites’. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots, Reuben), this four-track release is an eclectic mix of anthemic rock, kooky basslines, and ridiculously strong vocals.

‘Moustache Cash Dash’ kicks this EP off in fine style. Clocking in at just over a minute and a half, it’s a quick taste of what The Decoy has to offer; catchy hooks that reel listeners in with ease and finesse. ‘Vultures’ is compelling, combined with thumping riffs that make you wonder just how it’s possible to pack such a huge sound into such a small release. Title track ‘Parasite’ is raw and visceral, complete with rough-hewn riffs, while closing track ‘Andyouism’ signs off this EP with confidence and swagger.

The Decoy has created an enticing, antsy alt-rock release. It’s packed with a range of influences, ranging from Biffy Clyro to Reuben, from Queens Of the Stone Age to The Police – but such a diverse range of influences have helped to create such a catchy release.
