The Departed – Steal The Crown

By Lais

If you aren’t aware of them yet, The Departed are a five-piece melodic hardcore band from Grimsby (there’s another band called The Departed too, in the Deep South of America, but they’re an entirely different thing). The Departed are releasing a new full-length, ‘Steal The Crown’, and simply put, it’s great.

‘Steal The Crown’ oozes quality: it sounds professional while still retaining that rawness that all hardcore needs to remain legitimate in its genre. It’s a genre that’s taken incredibly seriously by its fans and regular listeners, so it’s important that it retains that energy, passion and rawness, while still sounding damn good.

The album is 12 tracks and 26 minutes of utter satisfaction, and this is one of the great things about hardcore: they get to the point. There’s no faffing about with filler tracks: it’s straight up anger, aggression and energy packed into small two-minute packages. This is practically the epitome of short but sweet.

But seriously, you need to check The Departed out. And if you’ve never heard them before, ‘Steal The Crown’ is a great introduction. With tracks like ‘Faithless’ and ‘Memories Last’, you really can’t go wrong with this one. And if you like a bit of melody with your hardcore, then this one really is for you. Get involved.
