The Lovers – Yeah (single)

By bushy

Tom Hingley is the lead singer with Inspiral Carpets, a band that had over sixteen top forty hits. Now he’s got himself a new band, featuring a couple of members of the Fall. The name of that band is The Lovers and this is their first release, a double-sided vinyl single.

The nice thing about this band is that it features artists who have been there, done that and got the proverbial t-shirt in the music industry. You get the sense that The Lovers are a band playing music that they want to play, purely because they enjoy it.

The Lovers play a brand of low-fi garage punk/rock that isn’t seen in many forms these days. Title track ‘Yeah’ is a brooding, bass heavy number that instantly grabs your attention. It serves as a tirade against the dangers of television and the media in general. How refreshing to hear a band with something to say. ‘3145′ is a slower track, but maintains the distinctive vocals and raw, bass-heavy, sound.

This release is a nice little appetiser for The Lovers forthcoming album later this year. If you see this shiny yellow record about, it’s well worth picking up.
