The Maine – ‘Forever Halloween (Deluxe Edition)’

By Tom Connick

It has been just over one year since ‘Forever Halloween’ was released. But The Maine never stop making music, especially when it comes to good tunes. ‘Forever Halloween (Deluxe Edition)’ is one of those releases that is completely different to the album itself, but adds something special to the whole album’s sound when it is being listened to non-stop – the sound of the rock band that has come through a long way and has finally reached a place where they belong.

First new song ‘So Criminal’ puts you in the right mood for the next chapter, with great vocals from frontman John O’Callaghan. The vitality of the song would not be the same without various guitar solos, and the same is heard throughout all the songs. ‘Vanilla’ is a bit different, with conceptual lyrics, rhythms and a catchy chorus resulting in a divergent vibe. Nevertheless, ‘Ugly On The Inside’ and ‘Bliss’ have a special effect – either as a break or preparing for the last song or, interestingly, both! The Arizona-based quintet had to make the last song special, and that is a reason why the long-waited ‘Ice Cave’ was finally recorded. It sounds the same as it does front row at their concert!

The band perform live this October with support from Lydia and Nick Santino.
