Treasures – ‘Alive’

By Jess Tagliani

When young, up-and-coming bands release an EP, they tend to be rushed and not very memorable, no matter how talented said band are. These days, it seems that bands want to throw material out into the public, so they become a talking point for a month or two, before interest dies off.

However, Treasures have spent time crafting their latest EP ‘Alive’, honing it to make it the best that it could possibly be, before releasing it. It’s the perfect length; five tracks that smack a punch with their adrenaline-fuelled energy, five tracks that give you a sweet taste of what this Basingstoke quintet have to offer, five tracks that’ll leave you begging for more.

‘Home’ is a promising start – their riffs roar to life, and frontman Nick Beeney’s vocals simply soar. The lyrics are emotive, with a chorus of, “Take me home/I cannot wait to leave this town/it’s not where I belong/away from you, I’m standing tall.” Only one track in, and their talent is astounding.

‘Enemies’ is packed with saucy guitar licks and furious drum work, while ‘Do What I Want’ and ‘Waiting Game’ are huge, emotionally-charged rock anthems. They’re punchy, with plenty of melodic hooks and bouncy choruses to reel in new and old fans alike.

Title and closing track ‘Alive’ closes this EP on a rather emotional note, whilst still maintaining their bold, spirited and colourful sound. The EP, on the whole, is an energetic and fun release, whilst still being an honest, heart-on-sleeve release, and their talent speaks for itself. With stage appearances alongside Mallory Knox, Don Broco, and Natives, and a slot at Burnout Festival, Treasures are sure to go far.
