It’s not often an album lands in our inbox that has the ability to genuinely confuse. Tu Amore’s ‘Your Love’ is one of them, and thankfully it’s interesting and bloody good to listen to at the same time. There’s screaming – but is it heavy? Nope. There’s plenty of clean vocals – but is it massively melodic? Not entirely.
Opening track ‘I’m a Mess’ starts off like a true melodic hardcore song, and the screaming/singing trade-off in the verse keeps that going. The chorus sounds like it could be a huge anthem, but the fact the vocals are done in a gravely half-shout leaves it falling a little short.
The six minute follow up to ‘Bird In a Cage’, however, is totally different. The screaming and shouting is all gone and there’s barely any distortion to be found. Where it is used, it’s hidden somewhat behind the clean riffs and vocal melodies, and the restraint makes the song excellent.. ‘Bird in a Cage’ leads pretty much straight into ‘Speranza’, which is much more like ‘I’m a Mess’, though it carries a much bigger chorus.
‘Wishing Well’ is again more melodic, and the somewhat haunting outro which leads sharply into screaming gang vocals is sure to get every voice in the house shouting along when played live. ‘Joan Of Arc’ follows suit somewhat, being massively melodic throughout but the occasional scream/shout turning it from peaceful into edgy.
‘Love With No Limit’ is along the same lines as ‘Bird In a Cage’, and though instrumental for a decent chunk, the few vocals are creepy and harmonic. Final track ‘Charcoal’ is possibly one of the saddest songs on the album. It’s a touching finish to a strong release.
‘Your Love’ is relaxing, perplexing and progressive at the same time and if you want to hear just how far rock music has developed in recent years then it’s well worth wrapping your ears around.
