Zatopeks – Smile or Move

By bushy

Following last years triumphant full-length debut, the Zatopeks return with a new four track vinyl EP, ‘Smile or Move’, released through It’s Alive Records of California. The EP comes on a clear orange 7” vinyl, and is packaged with enough goodies to sink a small battleship!

For those of you that are still to be acquainted with this band, the Zatopeks play a brand of pop-punk that mixes 50’s rock and roll with a more Lookout Records sound. ‘Smile or Move’ features two songs borrowed from last year’s ‘Ain’t Nobody Left But Us’ and also showcases two brand new tracks. Obviously, for fans of the bands it is these new tracks that will hold the most interest. I’m pleased to say that both ‘I Dream I’m Home’ and Even Zatopeks Cry’ are up to the band’s usual high standards, featuring all the Zatopeks trademarks -nostalgia, great harmonies, catchy hooks and a big sense of fun.

Given the Zatopeks love of all things 50’s, it’s perhaps fitting that they sound so good on this vinyl package. Whether you’re a long time fan or a new convert, this is well worth seeking out.
