You ever go to a show to see your friends’ bands, and that one touring band you’ve never heard of blows you away? That was the case with this show at the “World Famous” Doll Hut in Anaheim, California, in which I was first exposed to The Penske File. This Canadian Band hails from the suburbs of Toronto, and they blew me away with their energy, enthusiasm, and damn good music! How often do you see musicians actually smile while they’re playing? Well, these guys were smiling throughout their set.
Opening the night were On Deck, a band formed from members of other local bands to play more of an indie style of music. They did quite well for this being only their second show. LA’s Spanish Love Songs, recently signed to Wiretap Records (who just re-released the band’s debut LP with extra songs), played their unique brand of emo-tinged pop-punk. And closing out the night is a band that has been migrating to the north from San Diego, with members now living in the far north of San Diego County, LA, and Riverside. Caskitt has been honing their craft and broadening their style, and played some of the new songs off of their second full length album, which should be dropping quite soon, now.
