Download Friday: Come Out And Play
The Friday of Download is always an absolute party, and this year was no different. Before we crack into the written reviews, we’ve got galleries from every day on the way. Our Editor Tom was in charge of photos at Download this year, capturing the madness and the music on the day where The Offspring and Bad Relgion were heading up the punk rock.
The Offspring were the last band we shot on Friday night, playing Smash in full then a stack of hits in front of an excited crowd
Noodles and Dexter of The Offspring at Download 2014
The horns were out in force at Download this year, to the surprise of roughly seven people on the festival site.
PT reviewer Jess does her best angry pose face for Zombie day at Download!
The front of the Pepsi Max stage had a handy walkway for bands to take advance, which turned out to be pretty great for the occasional maraca dance
Chris Georgiadis is an absolutely captivating frontman, and he commanded Turbowolf through an amazing set at Download this year
Sunglasses inside: absolutely fine if you're as cool as Turbowolf bassist Lianna Lee Davies
"Just need to turn the Theremin up guys!"
Flogging Molly were a delight at Download, and they also have one of the greatest logos in punk.
If you don't like Flogging Molly then we're pretty sure you have no soul.
Being in the photo pit often means you get an eyeful of crowd surfers. Friday on the Zippo stage was no exception!
We weren't even sure that heads would go at this angle before Download this year, but Radkey's Dee proved us wrong!
Radkey were our second band of the weekend, and their surf influenced punk rock got us fired up for the weekend!
A heart to heart between Drones and the crowd at Download 2014
Drones brought the punk rock to the Red Bull Studios stage on the Friday at Download, making light work of a fine performance
We're pretty sure that it's possible to look like all three members of Green Day at once.
Jamie Lenman played two sets on the Jager stage on the Friday of Download. Here he is during the first of the two, which was the "stripped back" / acoustic one.
We're not sure how many microphones Baby Godzilla got through during their set, but we're pretty sure it's at least one.
Baby Godzilla giving out pieces of guitars less than halfway into a song. Their instrument bill for 2014 is probably at least £1,000,000. Probably.
This is about as still as Baby Godzilla stayed for their entire set on the Red Bull Studio Stage. Manic.
If you were to make a statue of Greg Graffin, this is the immortal stance it would shaped into.
One of the all time great punk rock bands, Bad Religion still have the power to draw big crowds at Download
"Fuck You" is a song by Bad Religion, and pretty much also the name of the pose Greg is adopting here
Jay Bentley of Bad Religion at Download 2014
Our favourite inflatable of the weekend. It's the hat that makes it.
Waiting around for bands to start is such sweet sorry
Our favourite thing about this picture is the guy in the bottom right "having a lovely time"
Selfie or blurry stage shot? We're not sure.
We're not even really sure where to start with this one
Download has always been a place that people get "expressive" with their outfits, but we're pretty glad we weren't stuck being this headpiece for too long...
...the Australian band were a long way from home, but certainly got things started for us in fine fashion
...and their set at Download went down in front of an impressive early crowd...
The Amity Affliction have been doing rather well so far this year...
Before we'd even arrived, our own Ben Tipple was having some serious fun. This was taken on the long walk in to the site on Friday!
People were getting in the spirit over on the Zippo Encore stage from the word go at Download this year
The Pepsi Max stage was slammed for most of the weekend, and a lot of our Friday was spent down the front getting up close and personal
