Maryam Hassan and Mat Stokes took to Fest this year to take all of the photos and party extremely hard. In case you live under a rock, Fest is a punk festival in Gainesville, Florida that is a weekend of bands, beers and bad ass times. This week we have a day by day guide of what went down starting with Thursday. There is no better place to spend Halloween then in Gainesville with thousands of punks, we spotted a pizza monkey, a burrito AND a burger and then got really hungry. Our day started with the Flea Market (selling Merch for Big Scary Monsters and drinking far too many PBR’s) and ended with pineapple drink parties on the 6th floor of the Holiday Inn (or crashed out if you had partied to hard (coughmaryamcough) or were dead from Pre-Festing!). Even still we managed to catch a good load of bands.
The first day of Fest is always exciting. You see people you’ve not seen all year, you meet new people, you drink far too much and you party far too hard. It’s also the day of the pool party and the flea market, both of which are an amazing start to the weekend. There’s nothing better than sitting with your feet in the pool in the Florida sunshine with your friends, especially when the pool is full of punks.
We would like to give a special shout out to Checkers. Without your mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce at ridiculous hours of the morning (or 11pm for some) we would not have been able to survive. Yes we got that sauce all over one of the beds in our room but it was WORTH IT.
