Lou Niles is a San Diego music institution. He’s been in the scene since the heyday of the nineties. He has hosted local music programmes on local radio stations. And he’s now hosting a series of live music events around town called “In Your Neighborhood.” The first of these for the new year took place in the northern suburb of Oceanside, at the local watering hole, Pour House. Niles DJ’ed before and after live sets, focusing on local acts. A toss of the coin determined which band played first, and it was Buckfast Superbee. BfSb, as they are known, were a fixture of San Diego music in the late nineties and early oughts, and now they’re back. They played old favorites and new songs they’re recording for a new record. Western Settings, who are building quite a large following in the US, equally played songs from past releases and a few new ones from a new LP to be released later this year.
