Introducing: Cavorts

By Lais

Barnsley four-piece Cavorts have recently released their debut album ‘Got Your Brass’ on In At The Deep End, so we had a chat with them to find out everything you need to know. Enjoy!

Tell us about your background: how, when and where did you form? What’s the story behind the band?

We’re four mates who’ve known each other for a while now and we’ve played in various other bands together over the years. We decided to carry on having fun playing music so we started Cavorts in 2012!

You’ve just released your debut album ‘Got Your Brass’ through In At The Deep End. How are you feeling about it all? It must be a pretty big thing for you.

It feels pretty good and a relief to have the album out, and it’s pleasing to have that approval and backing of a label. It’s nice to have IATDE to have us on their label; it’s been a label that we have grown up with and who have introduced us to some great bands. We’ve made good friendships from this.

How would you describe the album to someone who hasn’t heard it yet? And if you had to recommend one track as a taster of your sound, which would it be?

It’s a heavy rock album for anyone who is not afraid of intense vocals and honest energy. The taster track for today, ladies and gentlemen, is ‘Kicks and Strikes’. It’s a groovy burner that talks and love and battles.

How would you describe your sound overall? Who are your main influences?

The overall sound is the four of us playing our instruments and vocalising like we REALLY mean it, like it’s all on the brink of exploding. Our main influences are very varied as there are four of us that make up this band. I guess we could all say bands such as AC/DC and Black Sabbath. The power, energy and passion of bands is a big thing for us.

You’ve already played with some pretty cool bands. What has been the best/most exciting experience you’ve had in the band so far?

The recording of our first EP was stimulating, to hear what we sounded like actually professionally recorded! Then to record the album and finally hear what we’d done. Live-wise, playing some of those amazing venues on the DragonForce tour, such as the Shepherds Bush Empire and Newcastle Academy, and meeting people every night was an awesome experience that we’ll never forget.

Will you be playing many gigs in the aftermath of the album release? Any plans for tours?

We’ll be trying to play as much as we can! Keep an eye out for any venue near you that might have us! We’ll be doing some small places up and down the country and we’ve got plans afoot for tours and festivals in 2015.

What have you got coming up in 2015? And what are some of your main goals as a band?

We’ll be out playing, as the band and album will still be fresh! We’ll probably record some new music, maybe another release of some sort?! Our main goal is to be happy with what we’re doing. If you’re not happy then what’s the point? We want to play as much as possible, meet new people and make new honest friends!
