Staffordshire four-piece Wicked Snakes have just released their debut album through A Wolf At Your Door Records, so we had a chat with them to find out a little bit about their sound, their influences and what’s coming next.
Hi guys! Firstly, tell us a bit about the band’s background. How, when and where did you form?
We started Wicked Snakes just over a year ago in September 2013. The four of us used to be in another band but we decided it was time for something new and completely different. Wicked Snakes was a natural progression from our previous endeavours.
You’ve just released your debut album, ‘Sleep Dance’. How are you feeling about it?
We’re really excited for everybody to hear it. I think it’ll surprise a lot of people, in a really good way, hopefully. It’s incredibly different to the debut EP that we put out almost a year ago.
How would you describe it to anyone who hasn’t heard it yet?
Psychedelic, melodious, heavy in the right places and thought provoking. We’re firm believers in interesting music, it’s all well and good plonking around on a guitar and singing about going to the shops or thrashing out at 250bpm but that’s not for us. We write what comes naturally, and that is ‘Sleep Dance’ as a whole.
How would you describe your sound overall? And who would you say are your influences as a band?
Our sound is pretty trippy, at the same time as having ‘doomy’ elements running throughout. Our influences are all over the place but collectively I’d say Queens Of The Stone Age, Alice In Chains, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Soundgarden.
You’re releasing the album through A Wolf At Your Door Records. That’s pretty
cool. How are you feeling about being involved with the label?
A Wolf At Your Door are great dudes, a hard working bunch of geezers with a great alumni. It’s a great feeling to be included and thrown amongst names like Deaf Havana, Lower Than Atlantis and Mallory Knox as well as many others and they’ve helped us out no end with the release of ‘Sleep Dance’.
What are your plans after the album release? Will you be playing many shows?
We haven’t got many shows left this year, only two or three. I think we’ll be settling back down to start writing album #2 and getting out on tours in 2015. We’re going to be getting to work with hooking up with a ton of bands we dig in the new year. There are a few talks and ideas floating around at the moment which are pretty exciting!
What are your main goals with the band? Where do you see yourselves in five years?
To keep writing real music whilst progressing the sound of Snakes, playing cool shows with hard working bands and travelling the world. I think we’d love to see ourselves in the US and Asia over the next five years or so, maybe even before then. That shit would be incredible!
