It’s difficult to believe that it’s been well over a year since Blitz Kids’ album ‘The Good Youth’ was released and in the time since its release they’ve travelled around the UK and Europe, as well as a recent stint in the US for SXSW. Now, as they bring the album cycle towards it’s end, they decided to have one more party for the release of single ‘Keep Swinging’.
Taking over the Boston Music Rooms in Tufnell Park, London, for the event, the boys released around 100 free tickets to their closest fans and prepared an evening for all to remember. Once the sumo wrestling was over with (yes, really), the boys set about a 45minute live set to please all in attendance.
Bouncing into previous single ‘Run For Cover’ spirits are high throughout the room and there wasn’t a single person not singing a long. Surprisingly, Blitz Kids decided to mix up their usual set list by adding in not one, but two B-Sides. Often, this can be seen as a risky move, but remember the show was full of Blitz Kids’ die hard fans, who if anything showed more enthusiasm for the rare tracks than the anthemic singles that make up the album.
After those surprises, the band kicked back into gear, performing the tracks we all know and love from the album, including ‘Sold My Soul’, ‘On My Own’ and of course, ‘Keep Swinging’. In all honesty, the sound in the venue wasn’t brilliant and we’ve seen stronger performnces frrom Blitz Kids in the past, that said the evening was fun and served as a nice treat for those that have been following the band for years. Onwards and upwards Blitz Kids!
