LIVE: Deez Nuts, TRC, Louie Knuxx @ Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff

Tonight Deez Nuts hit Cardiff on their UK tour, and they bring with them one of the rowdiest line ups around. It’s a pretty good turnout at Clwb Ifor Bach tonight, and there are a sea of kids with Deez Nuts t-shirts here. Despite their obvious loyalty to the headline act, they also lose their minds to the support acts, and with such a rowdy line up, it’s not hard to see why.

First on are Counting Days, who share two members with London heavyweights TRC (guitarist Charlie Wilson and drummer Lasselle Lewis), and although we don’t manage to catch them, they put on a fantastic show by all accounts.

Next on is Louie Knuxx, a rapper from New Zealand. He definitely mixes things up a bit music-wise and he gets a lot of help from Deez Nuts frontman JJ Peters, but it doesn’t get as much of a reaction as you’d expect, considering the headline act’s frontman is onstage rapping with him. There are some questionable lyrics (see “Touch my heart with your tits”) and his set probably goes on a little too long, but it’s definitely something different.

London hardcore mob TRC don’t always get the response they deserve when they come to Cardiff, but tonight something has changed for the better. The crowd respond to them fantastically and the room goes off. Frontmen Chris Robson and Anthony Carroll start off on the floor before working their way back onstage, and the kids go mental. They get impressive singalongs on almost every song, whether new or old, but the best reaction of the night is probably to last year’s banger ‘#TEAMUK’. TRC are back.

Last but not least are Australia’s finest, Deez Nuts. They are one of those bands that have generated a lot of hype through being known as a party band, and a band who will speak their mind. They are not afraid of controversy, and this is probably part of the reason they have such a cult following now.

Tonight they go on fairly late, so their set is kept short and sweet, but it’s lapped up by everyone in the room. It’s probably not the best set of their lives, and frontman JJ Peters doesn’t seem to be on usual top form, but they’re still a lot of fun to watch as a live band. Songs like ‘I Hustle Everyday’ and ‘Your Mother Should Have Swallowed You’ go down a storm, and the crowd love them.

Whatever you may think of them, Deez Nuts have a loyal following, and they’re not going anywhere.
