Almost a year ago to the day, PVRIS played their very first UK show at Cardiff’s Y Plas, supporting Lower Than Atlantis. Now, 12 months on, they’re back in Cardiff’s Student Union, headlining the Great Hall, the bigger of the two rooms. PVRIS’ ascent has been unbelievable. Since that first UK show, they’ve been back in Cardiff only once to support Bring Me The Horizon, so the fact that within a year they’re now headlining sold out venues is wildly impressive.
It’s not surprising though, mainly down to the fact debut album ‘White Noise’ is just too good to ignore. The band also have incredible stage presence, and it’s these things that have ensured a sold out tour. From the moment they come onstage to ‘Smoke’, it’s clear how much work has gone into this tour. The production is astounding, and it all adds to the atmosphere of the show.
The band themselves are blinding live, and frontwoman Lynn Gvnn not only has an incredible voice, but also has a huge amount of charisma. They are an immensely watchable band, and with the amount of bangers they have, they are truly the full package. The whole set is completely wonderful, and it ebbs and flows with energetic highs like ‘St Patrick’ and more atmospheric, slower songs like ‘Eyelids’.
Ending on an encore that consists of ‘You & I’ and the soaring ‘My House’, it’s a perfect ending to an incredibly atmospheric night. It really is exciting to think about where PVRIS could go next after this, because they haven’t even started yet. Bravo.
