The Blackout – Camden Electric Ballroom, London

The Blackout + My American Heart
Camden Electric Ballroom
Sunday 10th January 2007

Despite much of the town being closed off due to a rather unfortunate market fire, Camden?s Electric Ballroom is heaving tonight, and San Diego?s My American Heart receive a rapturous welcome. With a studio polished sound that resonates around the venue, they?re impeccably tight and power through an enticing set of straight-up infectious rock songs. Watch out for them at Give It a Name this year, because they?re bound to win a few hearts over and are ones not to be missed.
Hitting the stage to the inevitable chant of ?We Are the Dynamite?, The Blackout manage to prove (albeit to a room full of people who never really doubted it) that the Welsh post-hardcore scene is still alive and fist-fucking venues across the UK. In all honesty I?ve never been a massive fan of the band and have largely overlooked the recent hype surrounding them, but they really are a spectacle to watch tonight, and not once do they let up the energy on stage. Throwing in a cheeky guest appearance of a certain Mr. Watkins on ?It?s High Tide Baby? goes down a treat as well, and there are few reasons why the Blackout won?t be reaching the dizzy heights of Lostprophets? celebrity in the coming year.
