End of Year List Twenty One: Giles Bidder

By Maryam Hassan

Throughout December we at PT:HQ are bringing you end of year lists from bands, labels and promoters. We’ll have a new one for you everyday so keep your eyes peeled for them! See all the lists here.

Giles Bidder (Great Cynics)

Top 3 Albums:

Martha – Courting Strong

The catchiest, funnest band – this album is so good and makes me so happy. Reminds me of Gordon Gano’s Army. Fun shit!

Cheap Girls – Famous Graves

One of my favourite bands ever. I’m not a gear nerd, but this record has the best sounding guitar of any of their stuff. ‘Splintered’ was so instant for me and the rest of the songs grew on me. Gives me pure joy.

Caves – Leaving

This is so gritty and catchy – gets better every time I listen to it.

Top Three Songs

Alvvays – Archie, Marry Me

This song was so instant and hasn’t lost any of it’s feeling throughout the rinsing it’s had. Absolute indie pop inspiration.

The Smith Street Band – Throw Me In The River

Throw me in the fuuuuuuckinn rivvverrrrrr.

Muncie Girls – The Teacher

This song is one big hook – love it. This is off a split we did with them and I’m probably bias, but this song’s been in my head since we first heard their side when we were recording it.

2015

Our friends Kerry and Cat started a band that have had a few practices. I heard one song recorded on a phone and it was absolutely incredible. I don’t think they have a name yet though?
