Throughout December we at PT:HQ are bringing you end of year lists from bands, labels and promoters. We’ll have a new one for you everyday so keep your eyes peeled for them! See all the lists here.
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND – Matthew Davies–Kreye
Top 3 albums of 2014
Bane – Don’t Wait Up
Not only the hardcore record of the year but my record of the year hands down. Sincere, passionate and honest everything that you could ever possibly want from a Bane record, Aaron Badard’s lyrics are unmatched in my eyes.
GIVE – Electric Flower Circus
I’ve loved Give for a while and collected all their 7” releases so this full length had a lot to live up to and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s like the best of Swiz and Bluetip smashed together. So fucking good it hurts.
The Tidal Sleep – Vorstellungskraft
Our German brothers and some of the nicest dudes I know. You can consider ‘Vorstellungskraft’ their first proper full length…beautiful, post-rock- screamo, total next level stuff.
Top 3 songs of 2014
Svalbard – Allure
I saw Svalbard play for the first time in a tiny club in Cardiff and they left me slackjawed, aggressive post-rock, screamo with amazing dynamics. This is my favourite song from their recent split LP with Pariso.
Creeper – Gloom
I was pretty gutted when Our Time Down Here called it a day but i was thrilled to hear that Will and Ian had Creeper going. This has one of the most hooky choruses ever…so good!
Vices – Vagrant
I have a huge soft spot for Aussie hardcore bands, for some reasons the attitude and conviction they have seems to be more sincere than anything I hear in the genre these days. Vices are short, sharp, loud and amazing…like a more pissed off Lifetime which is always good in my book.
Top pick for 2015
Svalbard If there’s any band in the UK right now that deserve to be recognised for writing killer songs without compromise then it’s these guys. They’re heading into the studio with Lewis Johns early in the new year to record their full length and I’ve no doubt it’s going to be amazing.
