Garbage will follow up 2012’s ‘Not Your Kind of People’ with ‘Strange Little Birds’, due for release on the 10th June via the band’s own label, STUNVOLUME.
“The guiding principle was keeping it fresh, and relying on instinct both lyrically and musically”, says vocalist Shirley Manson of the more spontaneous recording process. “We fell in love with immediacy,” adds Butch Vig, in whose basement the process began.
Fans of their earlier material will be happy to hear Manson reference their 1995 self-titled debut in relation to ‘Strange Little Birds’. “To me, this record, funnily enough, has the most to do with the first record than any of the previous records,” she says. “It’s getting back to that beginner’s headspace.” “In part that’s a result of not having anyone to answer to.”
