Idles Premiere New Song ‘Stendhal Syndrome’ At Maida Vale

By Thomas Gane

Ferocious Bristol post-punks Idles have debuted a new song from their upcoming debut album ‘Brutalism’ at the legendary Maida Vale studios for BBC Introducing in The West.

Driven by Idles formidable rhythm section, ‘Stendhal Syndrome’ is a two and a half minute burst of energy about Idles contempt for pacified and photoshopped popular culture. Lead singer Joe Talbot goes from barking his verses to drawling the type of sarcastic hook the band is making their signature (“forgive me, you sound stupid“) as the guitars mutate and change with him, building from a sharp riff into a distorted cacophony.

Far from being overawed by the iconic venue, the band approached the performance with the same aggression and spontaneity they bring to clubs and bars up and down the country. I’d also be willing to wager this is the first time anyone has swigged Buckfast in a Maida Vale session.

‘Brutalism’ will be released on March 10th and the band will be touring throughout March and April.
