Having finished recording their debut LP, the two piece group from Hertfordshire wrote both of these songs during a 6 hour practice session in Camden. Although the songs were originally meant to be part of split, Pet Library showcase their more experimental side with these tracks just under 4 minutes each.
Here’s what guitarist Tim Anderson and drummer George Milner had to say about both tracks:
George:”I wrote ‘Blame’ with the intention of following on from our song ‘Accidents’, with a little reference to it here and there. The songs from our first EP still hold very sentimental meaning to me and so I wanted to continue to talk about the way I push the fault onto myself for the mental health issues that I deal with and how I cope with this. The song originally didn’t have any spoken word, but in the studio we tried it and really liked how it sounded.”
Tim: “Chalk Farm is a song written about the struggles of becoming emotionally dependent on others too quickly. When you struggle with mental health, maintaining relationships with your friends and those close to you can always be incredibly hard to do, and people looking in from the outside can sometimes have a hard time understanding what it’s like to go through if they don’t have first hand experience. Luckily I have great friends who are super supportive of me when I’m being an arse or whatever.”
