Reuben’s ‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’ gets the 10th anniversary treatment

By Ben Tipple

As the excellent ‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’ reaches its 10th anniversary, Xtra Mile Recordings have revealed that they will be releasing a deluxe double disc version of the debut by cult legends Reuben (fronted by the charismatic Jamie Lenman).

The first disc will feature the original 16 songs that formed the album back in 2004, while disc two will hold previously unreleased sessions, demos and interviews.

‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’ is responsible for the well-known and often played Reuben hits ‘Let’s Stop Hanging Out’, ‘Freddy Krueger’ and ‘Moving to Blackwater’, amongst others.

“When I hear the album now I’m always surprised how full of energy it sounds, since we were so exhausted when we made it,” Jamie Lenman reminisces. “I know some people say the production is scrappy but I thought and still think it’s pretty slick! I remember desperately not wanting our first album to be swept under the carpet, to be just a practice run for the second one. I wanted it to stand on its own and I think it does.”

The record will be released later this year. In the meantime, here’s a video Lenman put together around the time of the original release.
