The Silver Medal stream debut EP, ‘Chin Up, Son’

By Ben Tipple

Hailing from Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England, lifelong friends (and siblings) The Silver Medal grew up on the likes of Brand New, Hundred Reasons and Biffy Clyro. It’s a melting pot that sees their debut EP, ‘Chin Up, Son’, deliver a distinctly British emo sound, removed from the revivalists of recent times but packed with just as much potential.

Made up of vocalist/guitarist Liam Smyth, backing vocalist/guitarist Declan Smyth, vocalist/bassist Russell Wind and drummer Ross Miller, their sound also evokes heavier emo counterparts, not least Funeral For A Friend.

Having already played a handful of local shows, including a headline slot at Southend’s iconic Chinnery’s, The Silver Medal drop ‘Chin Up, Son’ on the 6th August.

In the meantime, the band are streaming the four track EP on Bandcamp.

They have also revealed a video for the title-track, both a representation of their various influences and a statement of intent.
